Notes:
MSA: Because of a snow delay with the MSA tournament it had to be wrestled on the same weekend as the National Prep Tournament. Mt. St. Joe. a favorite to win the National Preps decided to forgo the National Prep Tournament and compete in the MSA’s.
They won the tournament for the 4th consecutive year.
Mount St. Joe had six individual MSA champions and nine finalists.
Greg Peery of Mount St. Joe won his third straight MSA title. He pinned his way through the tournament.
During the course of the last two years Mt. St. Joe has won 77 straight dual meets and averaged 48 points to their opponents 7.
Lou Chiapparelli wins his second MSA title and had 12 pins in his 13 dual meets. He pinned his way through the tournament.
Rico Chipparelli, a freshman becomes the second MSJ freshman to win an MSA championship.
Ten members of the Mount St. Joseph team will go on to wrestle Division I in college
St. Paul’s Davey Patterson wins the Outstanding Wrestler award.
MPSSAA
Kenwood High school had three finalists and two champions. Largo High School, the tournament champion, had four finalists and two champions. Seneca Valley and Bowie each had three finalists and one champion each.
Bruce Malinowski of Kenwood High School finished the year at 21-0 and repeated the championship he earned in 1977.
